A man in his 40s was dumped from a car by the side of the road after being shot a number of times in the leg in Dublin last night.

Gardaí are attempting to establish a motive for the shooting in Finglas after the man appeared to have been picked up by a gang of men before the assault and left at Kilshane Cross near the Cappagh National Orthopaedic Hospital.

A black BMW was seen leaving the scene shortly after the victim was thrown out at approximately 8.50pm.

The area is notorious for shootings with a number of bodies having been discovered there in the past.

Although shot repeatedly, the victim was rushed to Connolly Hospital in Blanchardstown for treatment and his injuries were not believed to have been life threatening.

Gardai are asking anyone with information to contact Finglas garda station on (01) 666 7500 or any other station.
