Man seriously injured in Dublin 4 group attack after Ireland rugby match

Gardaí appeal for witnesses as victim (51) remains in hospital for treatment

Gardaí have appealed for witnesses after a man was assaulted on Haddington Rd, Dublin 4, at the weekend. The victim remains in hospital undergoing treatment following the group attack on him.

Investigating gardaí are hopeful witnesses can be found to aid the inquiry as a large number of people were in the area at the time following the Ireland v Argentina rugby international at the nearby Aviva Stadium.

"Shortly before 5pm, a 51-year-old man was approached and assaulted by a group of males while walking on Haddington Road," Garda Headquarters, Phoenix Park, Dublin, said in a brief statement about the incident.

It added the victim sustained “serious facial and head injuries and is continuing to receive treatment in hospital”. While the man’s injuries were serious, they are not life threatening.
