Wayne Kennedy charged with murder of David Spain in Shankill on St Stephen’s Day

A 32-year-old man appeared in Bray District Court on Saturday charged with the murder of a man in Shankill on St Stephen’s Day.

Wayne Kennedy with an address at Rathsallagh Park was charged with the murder of David Spain. He was also charged with assault causing harm to a second man on the same night.

Mr Kennedy was remanded in custody. He is due to appear before Cloverhill District Court on Friday.

Mr Spain, who is understood to have recently returned from Australia for Christmas, was discovered with a second man – also in his 20s – on a road outside Rathsallagh Park at about 5.30am on St Stephen’s Day.

Both men had sustained serious stab injuries and were taken by ambulance to St Vincent’s hospital in Dublin where Mr Spain was pronounced dead shortly after 8am .

Mr Spain is survived by his parents David and Iris, sister Jennifer and brother Seán.

The second man is recovering from his injuries.
