A man in his 40s remains in Garda custody following a fatal stabbing incident in Dublin on Thursday evening.

The man was arrested and brought to Clontarf Garda Station yesterday evening under the provisions of Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984 following the incident at a house on the Harmonstown Road in Artane at around 7.40pm on Thursday.

The victim, also in his 40s, has been named as Mark Richardson.

Gardaí said the victim had received a number of stab wounds. He was taken to Beaumont Hospitalfor treatment but was pronounced dead there a short time later.

It is believed the two men were the only people at the address at the time of the incident, although investigations are ongoing.

Gardaí confirmed on Friday afternoon that the man arrested in connection with the attack is still in custody, and the scene remains sealed off for a technical examination by the Garda Technical Bureau.
