Man released without charge after fatal car crash

Gardaí have released without charge a man arrested in relation to a fatal car crash in Co Meath.

A file will be prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).

Jillian Thornton (20), of Halpin's Terrace, Drogheda, Co Louth, died when the car she was travelling in crashed into a second car.

She was a back seat passenger in the Mitsubishi Colt car, which collided with a Volkswagen Passat on the N2 near Duleek on Friday night.

Ms Thornton’s funeral will take place on Thursday morning.

Gardaí had confirmed that they were following the Colt at the time of the crash because they wanted to speak to the driver.

The Garda Síochána Ombudsman Commission (GSOC) said it is also investigating the incident.
