Man questioned over Dublin hit and run released

A man in his thirties who was arrested and questioned in connection with a hit and run in Dublin has been released without charge.

A file is being prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions. The man, who is in his mid thirties, was arrested yesterday and questioned at Mountjoy Garda station.

The victim of the hit and run is a 34-year-old who was on temporary release at the time of the incident. He is serving a seven-year sentence for a burglary in Coolock four years ago.

He was attacked on Parnell Street by a gang on Thursday morning. The man escaped but was later hit by a car at around 1pm on Trinity Lane by Clonliffe Road near Croke Park in Dublin.

His attackers fled in what is believed to have been a stolen car which was later found burned out by gardaí on nearby Stoney Road.

The man was lying unconscious in the laneway for up to half an hour before he was discovered. He has a broken neck, fractured skull and ruptured spleen and is receiving treatment in the Mater hospital.
