Man pleads guilty to Wicklow manslaughter

Clement Byrne admits killing Stephen O’Meara in 2009

A 49-year-old man has admitted killing father-of-three Stephen O’Meara in Co Wicklow in 2009.

Clement Byrne of Clonattin Village, Gorey, Co Wexford was arraigned before the Central Criminal Court today.

He was charged with murdering 26-year-old Mr O’Meara on or about August 6th of that year at Ballydonnell Wood, Redcross.

Byrne pleaded not guilty to murdering Mr O’Meara, who was from Rosehill in Wicklow Town, but he pleaded guilty to manslaughter and this plea was accepted by the State.

Mr Justice Paul Carney ordered a victim impact report and a probation report and remanded him in custody for sentencing on June 10th.
