Man held over Derry explosives find

Explosives, firearms and ammunition recoverd in search last year

A 27-year-old man has been arrested by police investigating the seizure of explosives in Derry last year.

The arrest was made as part of an inquiry into the possession of explosives, firearms and ammunition in suspicious circumstances as well as the supply of class A and B controlled drugs.

This morning’s arrest was connected to a search conducted in the city last December which involved the seizure of two Yugoslavian military high-explosive hand grenades, a machine gun, two handguns, a quantity of ammunition plus class A and B controlled drugs, Ecstasy and methadrone, with a potential street value of €23,000.

One man has previously been charged in connection with the discovery of the items.

The 27-year-old man was arrested in the Meadowbank Court area of Derry and remains in police custody.
