A man is due in court this afternoon charged in connection with the abduction of a post office official, his wife and baby in 2011.

The official, who worked at the Drogheda Post Office, his wife and their 2½-month-old baby were held hostage overnight by armed gang on August 1st that year.

The following morning the man was instructed to go to work as usual and withdraw a sum of money while his family was held hostage.

He was then instructed by the gang to leave the money, some €550,000 in total, at a specified location. His partner and child were released unharmed some hours later.
