Man arrested in relation to hijacking of woman’s car in Co Meath

Woman was pulled from her car by two men in Enfield early on Wednesday morning

A man has been arrested by gardaí investigating the hijacking of a car from a woman in Co Meath early on Wednesday morning.

The woman was left shaken by her ordeal during which two men pulled her from her vehicle. It was 5.40am and she had parked in the Moyfenrath estate, Enfieldwhen the men opened the door, pulled her out, left her on the ground and then drove off in her silver coloured Renault Megane in the direction of Kilcock.

Gardaí believed at the time the two attackers picked the woman at random, adding it seemed the men needed the car and decided the woman would offer little resistance.

She had pulled in with the intention of parking her car and being picked up by a friend to be brought to work in a car pooling arrangement.

People in Enfield were shocked by the incident according to local Cllr Enda Flynn, who said the location "is (also) where children gather to get a bus to primary school."

“When people hear about such aggressive behaviour they are obviously concerned. It is very unusual to have this behaviour in Enfield, which is a quiet spot.”

On Saturday morning, the garda press office confirmed that a man in his 50s was arrested in Dublin and is being detained at Trim Garda Station under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act.
