A man has been arrested on suspicion of criminal damage by gardaí investigating a house fire in Co Donegal in which a woman in her 80s died.

The fire broke out at the house in the Doochary area on Tuesday afternoon and was extinguished by emergency services at about 4.40pm.

The woman’s body was found inside the building.

The scene is currently preserved and members of the Garda Technical Bureau are conducting a technical examination. The services of the Office of the State Pathologist have been requested.

Gardaí said the results of the postmortem examination will determine the course of their investigation.

A man in his 60s, has been arrested in respect of an alleged offence of criminal damage. He is being held under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984 in Ballyshannon Garda station.
