A Romanian national was arrested at Cork Airport attempting to import cannabis resin.

The 36-year-old had arrived on a flight from Spain on Friday night.

Revenue officers seized about 0.75kg of cannabis with an estimated street value of €6,000, which the man had ingested in the form of sealed pellets to avoid detection.

The man was selected for examination following routine profiling carried out by Customs officers.

A total of 80 pellets were retrieved in special facilities used by Revenue's Customs Service at Cork Airport yesterday.

The man’s medical condition was assessed at Cork University Hospital yesterday.

He was arrested and taken to a Cork Garda station, where charges in relation to the incident were brought.
