Man arrested after double stabbing leaves two seriously injured

Areas near River Barrow sealed off by gardaí to allow gathering of forensic evidence

A man has been arrested in connection with a double stabbing in Carlow town on Sunday night which has left two others in serious but stable condition in hospital.

Two men, one in his 50s and the other in his 40s, are understood to have suffered stab wounds during an incident adjacent to the River Barrow at Montgomery Street/Barrow Track.

Shortly after 6.45pm, gardaí were called to an incident at the Barrow Track area in Carlow Town where two men were discovered with apparent stab wounds.

It is understood a passerby called emergency services, who rushed to the scene. Both men were transferred to St Luke’s Hospital in Kilkenny.

The two men are known to each other. It is also believed that the arrested man, who is being held at Carlow Garda station, may know the two injured men.

In a statement, gardaí said the injuries sustained by the two men were serious.

Two areas along the river track have been sealed off by gardaí so that forensic evidence can be gathered.

Gardaí are appealing for witnesses. They are particularly appealing to anyone who may have video footage from the footpath at Barrow Track at the time of the incident to make it available to them.
