A man suffered serious injuries in an assault early this morning in Ranelagh in south Dublin.

The 32-year-old was attacked at the junction of Charleston Road and Oakley Road at around 5.30am.

An ambulance was called and the man was taken to St Vincent’s Hospital.

A 27-year-old man and a 22-year-old woman were arrested a short distance from the scene of the attack. They are being held at Rathmines and Terenure Garda stations under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984.

The scene was preserved and technically examined by gardaí.
