Woman passenger seriously injured in separate motorcycle crash in Co Donegal

A man in his 40s has died following a motorcycle crash in Co Cork on Sunday.

The man was found on the roadside near his motorbike by a passing motorist at Kilpadder South near Dromahane, outside Mallow.

The incident occurred shortly after 5pm when his vehicle went off the R619 at Kilpadder South, Dromahane and collided with a ditch.

It is believed the man had been travelling on the R619 from Bweeng to Dromahane when he struck the ditch and was thrown from his bike.

The man was pronounced dead at the scene and his body was removed to the mortuary at Cork University Hospital. A postmortem examination is due to be carried out.

Gardaí have not released the man’s name until all next of kin are notified but it is understood he is from the Dromahane area.

It is believed he had been in Bweeng earlier in the afternoon and was returning home to Dromahane when the crash happened.

The scene was attended by the Mallow Roads Policing Unit and examined by forensic collision investigators. The bike was also removed for further examination.

Separately, a woman is in a serious condition in Beaumont Hospital in Dublin following a motorcycle crash in Co Donegal.

The woman (27) was a pillion passenger in the vehicle when it crashed at about 3.30pm on Saturday at Moness, Burt.

The driver, a man (33), was taken to Letterkenny University Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
