Man (31) arrested over early-morning carjacking in Dublin

A 31-year-old man has been arrested after a carjacking incident in Palmerstown, Dublin, early this morning.

A 58-year-old male taxi driver was threatened and assaulted at knifepoint by a lone male before being forced from his vehicle at about 1.30am in a car park at a Palmerstown shopping centre.

The car was driven from the scene in the direction of the N4. The taxi driver was taken to Ballyfermot Garda station, where he received medical treatment for non life-threatening injuries.

In a follow-up operation, a 31-year-old male was arrested when members of the Garda regional support unit intercepted a taxi at a filling station near Maynooth, Co Kildare, shortly before 8am.

The man is being detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984, at Lucan Garda station.

The investigation is ongoing.
