A man whose mother found him stabbed to death in North Belfast was the victim of a frenzied attack, police said.
Basil McAfee (50), was discovered at his home in Henderson Avenue just before Christmas. His funeral took place earlier this week.
Detectives have released CCTV images of the last sighting of him alive, at an off-licence on the Cavehill Road.
PSNI Detective Chief Inspector John McVea said: “Basil suffered a violent death. I believe he was beaten about the head with a sharp implement and then stabbed.
“This was a savage, frenzied attack. A number of items were taken from the house.
“Whoever did this is a danger to others in the community while still at large.”
Police believe the victim was with other people in the off-licence on the afternoon of Thursday December 19, but so far they have not come forward.
Mr McAfee was found dead the next day.
Officers appealed for anybody with information to contact them.
