A man is in custody following an incident in Mullingar last night in which Olympic boxer John Joe Nevin sustained a broken leg.

Gardaí were called to the Ardleigh area of the town shortly after 11.30am, following reports of an incident in which the 24-year-old suffered leg injuries.

The Olympic silver medalist was removed to the Midland Regional Hospital in Mullingar for treatment after the incident, details of which are unclear.

Gardaí said a dispute involving a number of individuals outside a house at Ardleigh Crescent had been reported. Two men in their 20s and a woman in her twenties were admitted to hospital.
