An Irish man wanted for questioning over a double murder in Co Louth has opposed his extradition from Spain.
Jason O’Driscoll (32), appeared at a closed door extradition hearing on Thursday in Madrid.
He was detained on foot of a European arrest warrant at Alicante airport onTuesday in connection with the murders of Anthony Burnett (32), and Joseph Redmond (25). He had flown to Spain from Northern Ireland.
The pair, from Ballybough in Dublin's north inner city, were found in the front seat of a burning car close to Ravensdale Forest, Co Louth, in March 2012.
It is believed they had been tortured and shot in the head before the vehicle was set alight.
Mr O’Driscoll opposed his extradition to Ireland at the closed-door sitting.
He was remanded to a local prison pending a new hearing at which a judge will decide whether to send him back to Ireland or not.
Ireland now has 40 days to present a formal extradition request.
