Investigation after man’s body found on green area in Ennis

The death of a man in his 40s in Ennis this morning is being treated as suspicious by gardaí.

The man’s body was spotted lying in a green area in the upper Turnpike area of Ennis by a passerby at 10am.

Gardaí have cordoned off the scene which faces the Gallows Hill housing estate and members of the Garda scenes of crime unit are examining the scene.

Insp John Ryan of Ennis Garda station told reporters at the scene that Gardai are treating the death as “suspicious”.

Insp Ryan declined to comment on an unconfirmed report that a knife was found at the scene.

The man’s body remains at the scene located between a stone wall and a tree. Local detectives are also in the area this morning conducting interviews with local residents.

The inspector said that at this stage, Gardai do not know the identity of the man but believe that he is in his 40s.

The State Pathologist’s Office will carry out a postmortem.
