Improvised explosive device made safe in Co Antrim

Device discovered on grassland ‘had the capability to cause serious injury’ says PSNI

An improvised explosive has been made safe by army bomb disposal experts in Dunmurry, Co Antrim.

The device was discovered on grassland in the Colin Road area, prompting a security alert.

PSNI Det Insp Stuart Griffin said: “ATO (army technical officers) attended the find of a suspicious object and have declared it to be an improvised explosive device which has now been taken away for further forensic examination.

“This device had the capability to cause serious injury and was left in an open public area where anybody, including children, could have found it.”
