Herbal cannabis worth €1.7m seized in Dublin Port

150 cannabis plants and cultivation equipment seized in separate search in Co Wicklow

Officers from Revenue’s Customs Service seized 85kgs of herbal cannabis at Dublin Port on Monday with an estimated street value of €1.7 million.

The drugs, destined for a premises in Dublin’s north inner city, were discovered when officers scanned a container of animal feed which highlighted anomalies in the information provided with the shipment.

Revenue’s x-ray scanner revealed 85 smaller packages of vacuum-packed drugs hidden within large cartons of feed.

Investigations are continuing.

Meanwhile, gardaí seized approximately 150 cannabis plants with an estimated street value of €120,000 after searching a house at Cherrymount, Avoca, Co Wicklow.

iA large amount of equipment used for growing cannabis was also recovered and a 30-year-old man was arrested at the scene.

He was taken to Pearse Street Garda Station where he was detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984.

He has since been released without charge and a file is being prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions.
