Gardaí recover ATM ripped from wall of Co Sligo bank

An ATM machine ripped from the wall of a Bank of Ireland branch in Co Sligo this morning has been recovered.

Thieves used a digger to break a hole in the wall of the bank in the town of Tubbercurry at around 5am and then pulled out the ATM.

The machine was then loaded on to a trailer and driven out of the town.

A Garda spokesman said the ATM was found abandoned a short time later at Collaney, which is approximately 8kms from Tubbercurry.

The machine was found on the trailer and with the vehicle used in the robbery.

An initial examination of the ATM suggested it had not been opened, the spokesman added.

The digger used in the robbery was recovered in Tubbercurry. The bank branch is closed today.
