Man and woman released after cannabis valued at €160,000 found in shed

Gardaí from north Cork are to prepare a file for the DPP after arresting two people for questioning over the weekend about a €160,000 drug seizure on the Cork-Kerry border.

Officers from the Kanturk district drugs Squad uncovered the drugs when they found a a cannabis growhouse in the Rathmore area just over the county boundaries from Millstreet.

Gardai recovered 204 cannabis plants and a kilo of cannabis herb when they searched a family home and discovered an elaborate growhouse operation in a nearby shed on Thursday night.

A Garda spokesman described the growhouse operation as highly sophisticated with special lighting equipment set up to help bring the cannabis plants to maturity.

Gardai arrested a 45 year old woman in the Rathmore area on Saturday under drug trafficking legislation and brought her to Kanturk Garda Station for questioning about the growhouse.

The woman was questioned for several hours by detectives about the growhouse operation before she was released without charge late on Saturday night.

Meanwhile detectives arrested a man in his 20s in the Glenflesk area of Co Kerry in the early hours of Sunday morning and he was also brought to Kanturk Garda Station for questioning.

The man was held for several hours and questioned before being released later yesterday and gard aí will now prepare a file on the matter for the DPP, said a Garda spokesman.
