Gardaí arrest 35 in Carlow, Kilkenny in anti-crime push

Gardaí have arrested 35 people in Carlow and Kilkenny following a major operation designed to disrupt criminal activity.

Operation Thor - or “project storm” - was a four-day policing initiative in the Kilkenny-Carlow Division.

The main activity took place on Thursday, when 10 people were charged. They are due to appear at local sittings of Carlow and Kilkenny District Courts in the coming weeks.

“The targeted arrests were made in connection with ongoing investigations into recent burglary, theft, criminal damage, assault and violent disorder incidents and in relation to bench and penal warrants,” gardaí said in a statement.

A total of 47 checkpoints were mounted, aimed at intercepting and disrupting criminal groups.

Seven vehicles were also seized at checkpoints for breaches of various road traffic laws.

A number of searches of properties were carried out as part of ongoing investigations, including two locations targeting reported drug crime.
