Garda warning follows theft of hazardous animal drugs

Several animal drugs including lethal barbiturates used for euthanasia have been stolen from a premises in Galway.

The burglary, which occurred in Loughrea in the early hours of Wednesday morning, has prompted gardaí to issue a public appeal for information.

They did not say from where the substances were stolen. But one item, Euthanal, is commonly used by vets to put animals to sleep and is deemed a lethal substance.

The others include: three quantities of Ketamine; 17 individual quantities of the sedatives Chanazine, Medesedan and Torbugesic; and six quantities of the anti-inflamatories Ketufen and Flunixin.

Stolen

"An Garda Síochána are urgently appealing for information on the whereabouts of a number of dangerous drugs that were stolen during the course of a burglary at a premises in Loughrea, Co Galway," they said.

“The drugs stolen during the course of this burglary are primarily intended for animal use only and can be dangerous if consumed by humans.”
