A man in his 60s is being questioned after allegedly stabbing an off-duty garda in the hand in Co Cork.

The incident took place in Fermoy mart at around 7.10pm. It is understood to have occured after the man parked his truck outside the mart, blocking cars from leaving.

The garda was reportedly stabbed as he tried to remove the keys from the man’s ignition. The suspect was then arrested by other gardaí.

The garda was taken to Cork University Hospital where his injury is described as not serious.

The man is being held in Fermoy Garda station.
