Garda Commissioner in appeal over Adrian Donohoe murder

The Garda Commissioner has called on anyone with information on the murder of Garda Adrian Donohoe, who was shot dead in Co Louth two years ago, to come forward.

Speaking after a Mass at St Joseph’s Church in Dundalk to mark the second anniversary of Det Gda Donohoe’s death, Noirín O’Sullivan said the investigation was still active and significant progress has been made.

She appealed to anyone who has any information - “no matter how small or irrelevant it may be” - to contact gardaí. “There are people who can significantly help the investigation and I would ask those people to come forward.”

Det Donohoe (41), was shot dead during a robbery at Lordship credit union, near Dundalk, Co Louth on January 25th, 2013.

Nobody has been charged with his killing.

Gardaí believe the five-person gang at the scene of the murder on the night of January 25th are from the area of south Armagh and just south of the Border in Co Louth. The main suspects are from north of the Border.

Sinn Féin president and Louth TD Gerry Adams attended the mass and said afterwards anyone with information should bring it to the Garda or the PSNI.

“If people are nervous about doing this they could pass the information to me and I will pass it on to the relevant authorities,” he said. “There is a duty on anyone with information to bring that forward to ensure that his killers are brought to justice.”
