Garda cars burnt out in arson attack at Dundalk Garda station

Two cars have been destroyed by fire in an arson attack at Dundalk Garda station, Co Louth.

The incident occurred at about 2.30am on Wednesday.

The Garda cars were parked in the area at the front of the station and it appears an accelerant may have been thrown at them from the footpath, causing them to catch fire.

The vehicles were damaged beyond repair .

Garda Headquarters confirmed that an arson attack had occurred and that two vehicles had been damaged.

In a statement. it added an investigation had begun into the criminal damage and that no arrests had been made so far.

“At approximately 230am, two Garda vehicles were set alight. No injuries reported as a result. The scene was preserved and has been technically examined. The cars have now been removed from the scene,” the Garda said.

The vehicles - a patrol car and an unmarked Garda car - appear to be the only cars damaged in the attack and no private vehicles owned by gardai were involved.
