Garda appeal for witnesses of serious assault in Cork city

Victim in critical condition after incident which occurred on Friday evening

A man in his forties is in a critical condition in hospital after he was assaulted on Oliver Plunkett Street in Cork city centre on Friday evening.

The assault occurred between 6pm and 7.30pm. The man was transferred by ambulance to Cork University Hospital where he remained in a critical condition on Saturday morning.

Gardaí­ are appealing to anyone who was in the vicinity of Oliver Plunkett Street between 6pm and 7.30pm yesterday who may have witnessed the assault to come forward.

Gardaí­ are also urging road users who may have been in the area of Grand Parade/Oliver Plunkett Street and who may have camera footage (including dash-cam) to make this footage available to them.
