Four arrested over attempted robbery at Co Kilkenny pub

‘Armed’ men wearing balaclavas left empty-handed after struggle with bar owner

Gardaí have arrested four men in Co Kilkenny following an attempted armed robbery at a pub in Skough, Piltown.

The raid took place shortly after 10.30pm on Thursday night when two men wearing balaclavas entered the pub.

The raiders, who appeared to be armed, entered the pub in Skough and threatened staff and customers.

“Nothing was taken in the incident and there were no injuries reported. The men left the scene empty handed following a struggle with the owner of the premises,” said a Garda spokesman.

A car was seen leaving the area but was stopped a short time later by gardaí.

Gardaí arrested three people travelling in the car; a man in his 20s, a man in his 30s and a juvenile male.

Two of the men were taken to Thomastown Garda station and the juvenile was taken to Kilkenny Garda station.

They are all being detained under Section 30 of the Offences Against the State Act, 1939.

In the early hours of Friday morning a fourth male in his 20s was arrested. He is being detained at Kilkenny Garda station under Section 30 of The Offences the State Act, 1939.

The car, a wine-coloured Renault Megan with 01 D plates, was seized for technical examination.
