Five youths have been apprehended by gardai after escaping a detention centre in Co Dublin.

The children absconded from Oberstown Detention Centre, Lusk by climbing over fences and running towards fields adjacent to the centre on Saturday.

After gardai were alerted the armed support unit and the Garda dog unit searched for the youths who were apprehended.

A garda spokeswoman said the matter was now with the prison services.
