Five people have been taken into Garda custody following an outbreak of violence at the main cemetery in Tralee this lunchtime.

Violence broke out after the funeral of a settled Traveller in what senior Garda sources said was an outbreak related to an ongoing feud between Traveller factions in Kerry.

The feud had been dormant with the past year or so after several key figures moved to the UK.

Slashhooks, broom handles and other weapons were seized by gardaí called to the scene at Rath Cemetery opposite Kerry General Hospital on the main approach to the town centre.

No charges have yet been brought.
