Doctor cleared of allegations on performace

A hospital consultant who was accused of poor professional performance in treating an elderly man, who subsequently died at Roscommon County Hospital, has been cleared of all allegations.

The Medical Council’s fitness-to-practise committee cleared Dr Sardar Ali, who was a respiratory consultant at the Roscommon hospital when Roy Eyre (77) was admitted on March 14th, 2011.

Mr Eyre was treated by Dr Ali but he died at the hospital on April 6th.

The hearing was told that Mr Eyre was suffering from multiple conditions – some of which were very serious – including diabetes, heart disease, liver and kidney disease, gout and a blood disorder called haemochromatosis.

Mr Eyre had also suffered a stroke and a deep vein thrombosis in one of his legs.
