Teen accused of threatening to kill or cause serious harm to journalist

A Dublin youth has been charged with making a threat to a Garda that he would kill or seriously harm a journalist.

The boy, aged 17, who cannot be named because he is a minor, appeared at the Dublin Children’s Court on Wednesday.

He faced a charge under section five of the Non-Fatal Offences Against the Person Act for making a threat to a Garda and two other people at a youth project, intending them to believe he would kill or cause serious harm to the woman.

It allegedly occurred on November 9th last.

The teenager, accompanied to court by his father, has not yet pleaded.

Facts surrounding the allegations have not yet been given in court.

Judge Paul Kelly granted legal aid and ordered disclosure of prosecution evidence to the defence.

Santry Garda Michael McCallion gave evidence of arrest, charge and caution.

There was no objection to bail subject to a no-contact condition and restrictions on the teen’s movements and internet use.

Judge Kelly ordered him to appear again in January to enter a plea.

Section 93 of the Children Act states that no report shall be published or included in a broadcast that reveals the name, address or school of any child concerned in the proceedings or includes any particulars likely to lead to the identification of any child concerned in the proceedings.
