McGeever trial date set for November

The trial of former property developer Kevin McGeever has been set for November 11th. Mr McGeever (69) is charged with wasting Garda time in relation to a six-month investigation into his alleged kidnapping last year. He appeared before Galway Circuit Criminal Court yesterday.

Mr McGeever, formerly of Ballywinna, Craughwell, Galway, now of Clontarf, Dublin, is charged with making false reports and statements to gardaí between January 29th and February 28th, 2013, which tended to show that he had information relating to allegations of false imprisonment, assault and threats to harm. He is further charged with wasting Garda time by making false reports and statements during the same period.

Last March, Conor Fahy, prosecuting, said the State would be calling 38 witnesses . He told the court yesterday the trial would take three days.

Judge Rory McCabe listed the matter for trial on November 11th.

Mr McGeever, who had been reported missing in May 2012, was found wandering in a confused and dishevelled state by a couple on a secluded road in Co Leitrim in January 2013.
