Man remanded over attack on pregnant woman during carjack

A 27-year-old man charged with assault and robbery of a pregnant woman during a car-jacking in Dublin on Monday was further remanded in custody today.

The car was alleged to have been taken in the north inner city, while the mother-to-be was still in it, after her partner stepped out to put money into a parking meter.

Stephen Comey of Pearse House, Dublin 2, was charged with assault causing harm to Xiao Linh Zhoun (36) in Dublin's north inner city on May 12th. He is also charged with robbery of a mobile phone worth €500 from the woman.

Mr Comey had been denied bail when he was brought before Judge Anthony Halpin at Dublin District Court on Tuesday evening. The defendant had been remanded in custody and his case resumed today at Cloverhill District Court before Judge Victor Blake.

Dressed in grey tracksuit he did not address the court and his solicitor Eleanor Leane told Judge Blake that there was consent to Mr Comey being further remanded in custody to appear again at the same court on May 28th.

The judge also heard that directions from the DPP needed to be obtained in relation to the case.

The car was allegedly taken near Mountjoy Square at about 3pm on Monday and stopped by gardai at Sean McDermott St. The accused had been arrested and held at Store Street Garda station where he was charged before being brought to court.

Following the incident the woman was brought to the hospital where she was treated for minor injuries.
