Man awarded €356,000 for fall that caused life-changing injury

Gintaras Katkevicius left with scarring and osteoarthritis after dislocating wrist

A man who suffered serious injuries in March 2011, after he fell off a ladder when a gust of wind moved it, has been awarded €356,000 damages at the High Court.

Mr Justice Kevin Cross said Gintaras Katkevicius (32) had suffered a serious life-changing injury. He was left with scarring and had already developed osteoarthritis after dislocating his wrist.

He had changed from being an active young man who came from Lithuania seeking work to somebody who had not worked since the accident, Mr Justice Cross added.

Mr Katkevicius, Lucan, Co Dublin, sued his employer, Ipone Limited, Danville Business Park, Kilkenny. The judge granted a stay in the event of an appeal, providing €200,000 was paid out immediately.
