Ex-Shamrock Rovers player settles action over leg injuries

A former Shamrock Rovers player who sued a community association over leg injuries suffered after allegedly slipping on water while playing indoor football has settled his High Court action.

Former midfielder Stephen Wilkie had told the court he fractured his left leg and later had to have operations following the fall.

His pain levels were through the roof after the incident and he now experiences stabbing pain which “hurts like hell”, he said.

Mr Wilkie (37), of Cushlawn Dale, Killinarden, Tallaght, Dublin, sued Tymon Bawn Community Association Ltd, with offices at Firhouse Road West, Tallaght, owners of the Tymon Bawn Community Centre, Firhouse Road West, Tallaght, as a result of the fall on July 23rd, 2009.

He claimed he was allowed to play football at the centre when, he alleged, it ought to have been known there was a risk or a danger to him.

He further claimed he was caused to fall because there was water on the floor.

Prior to the accident, Mr Wilkie was a very fit person and an avid kickboxer, it was claimed.

Claims denied

The defendant denied all the claims and also pleaded contributory negligence on the part of Mr Wilkie who, it contended, fell during a clash with another player.

On the third day of the action on Wednesday, Mr Justice Kevin Cross was told it had been settled and could be struck out.

No details of the settlement were disclosed.
