Judge refuses to grant bail to men charged over stabbing

Victim was stabbed 32 times in ‘frenzied attack’ that took place in Co Limerick in April

Two men charged in connection with the death of a man in a stabbing incident in Co Limerick have been refused bail.

Gardaí told Limerick District Court that Shane Murphy was stabbed 23 times in a "frenzied attack" on April 30th last at a house in Pallaskenry.

Ger Hogan (32), of Raheen Square, Ballinacurra Weston, and Dylan Hayes, (20), of The Crescent, Kilteragh, Dooradoyle, are both charged with assault causing serious harm to Mr Murphy.

The men are also charged with producing a knife during the course of assaulting Mr Murphy on the same date.

Gardaí told the court both accused initially stabbed Mr Murphy before they returned again to inflict further stab wounds on his body as the victim lay “incapacitated” on a couch.

Mr Hogan and Mr Hayes were found in an upstairs bedroom of the house following Mr Murphy's death, and Mr Hayes was smoking heroin, gardaí said.
