Comedian Jason Byrne appears in court on motoring offence

Entertainer set to tour Ireland and UK with stand up show, ‘The Man With Three Brains’

Comedian Jason Byrne appeared at Swords District Court on a road traffic charge on Wednesday.

The 45-year-old, with an address at Oldtown, Co Dublin, is alleged to have been driving without a driving licence on the R122 near his home in north Co Dublin.

A member of the Garda Traffic Unit, based at Phoenix Park, told the court he arrested Byrne at 3.10pm on June 13th in the village of Oldtown and brought him to Swords Garda Station. He charged Byrne at 4.03pm and handed him a true copy of the charge sheet.

He said Byrne made ‘no reply’ after caution.

Further charges are anticipated.

Defence barrister Patrick Jackson, acting for solicitor Laura Shannon, requested the case be put back for a later date for a plea, or to fix a date for the hearing of the case.

Byrne has not yet indicated how he will plead.

The popular entertainer who is set to tour Ireland and the UK later this year with his stand up show, The Man With Three Brains, did not address the court during his brief appearance.

Judge Conal Gibbons remanded Byrne on continuing bail to appear again before the court on September 12th.
