Man pleads guilty to assault of 20-year-old who later died

James O’Brien one of seven charged in relation to assault at footbridge in Tallaght

A man has pleaded guilty to assault causing harm to a 20-year-old man who died two days after being injured at a footbridge in Tallaght.

Dale Creighton died in hospital on January 2nd 2014.

James O’Brien (22) of The Mill, Baltinglass, Co Wicklow is charged with assaulting Mr Creighton on New Year’s Day on Saint Dominic’s Road, Tallaght.

He pleaded guilty when arraigned before the Central Criminal Court on Monday morning.

Mr Justice Patrick McCarthy heard O’Brien had no previous convictions, was already linking in with the probation services and that a report would be prepared.

He remanded him on continuing bail for sentencing on October 12th next.

Seven other Dubliners in their 20s are also charged in connection with Mr Creighton’s death.

All are originally from Tallaght and are due to go on trial in October 2016.
