Man’s trial for allegedly abusing two girls listed for June 2016

The trial of a man charged with 50 counts of sexual abuse against two young girls will now take place in June next year at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court.

The 51-year-old man, who cannot be identified for legal reasons, was sent forward from the District Court last year.

He is accused of abusing the victims between 2007 and 2011 at locations in Dublin and Donegal.

The charges sent forward include 40 counts of child exploitation by inviting, inducing or coercing the alleged victim to engage in or participate in a sexual, indecent or obscene act.

This includes engaging in the production of child pornography.

There are three counts of alleged sexual assault and seven of defilement of a child under the age of 17.

On Friday, James Dwyer BL, prosecuting, submitted to Judge Martin Nolan that the DPP wished to reschedule the trial again as a State witness would be unavailable.

The trial, which is expected to last a fortnight, had been fixed for a May 2016 date last week.

Judge Nolan granted the application for the trial to begin on June 13th, 2016 instead and remanded the man on continuing bail until that date.
