Anglo trial jury sent home after four hours deliberation

Three former Anglo officials plead not guilty to hiding accounts linked to FitzPatrick

The jury in the trial of three former officials at Anglo Irish Bank has been sent home for the day.

The six women and five men had been considering their verdict for four hours and 46 minutes. They had requested Wednesday afternoon off at the outset of the eight-week trial.

Aoife Maguire (63) of Rothe Abbey, South Circular Road, Kilmainham, Dublin, Bernard Daly (67) of Collins Avenue West, Whitehall, Dublin and Tiarnan O'Mahoney (56) of Glen Pines, Enniskerry, Co Wicklow have been charged with trying to hide accounts, connected to the former chairman of the bank, Sean FitzPatrick, from Revenue between March 2003 and December 2004.

They have pleaded not guilty.

In his closing charge to the jury on Tuesday, judge Patrick McCartan said they must leave any “hard views” about the bank behind them. He said Anglo Irish Bank was not on trial.

At lunchtime on Wednesday, he said he would see the jury at 11.30am on Thursday.
