A couple have been detained at Dublin Airport after trying to smuggle two litres of liquid cocaine into the country.
They were also found with about 8.5kgs of powder cocaine. The total value of the drugs, which was hidden in their luggage, is estimated at €740,000.
Seizures of liquid cocaine are relatively rare. The drug is sometimes broken down into liquid form to make it easier to smuggle through airports before being reconverted into a solid.
The liquid is often soaked into clothing first and extracted later.
The two suspects arrested on Thursday, a man aged in his 30s and a woman in her 20s, were stopped at around 9pm shortly after landing. The drugs were discovered during a search of their luggage by Revenue Customs.
They were taken to Ballymun Garda Station where they are being held under the Criminal Justice (Drug Trafficking) Act, 1996.
Gardaí say investigations are ongoing.
