Comedian Jason Byrne charged with driving without insurance

Byrne has not yet indicated how he will plead

Comedian Jason Byrne was charged with further motoring offences when he made his second appearance before Swords District Court within three months.

Byrne (45) with an address at Oldtown, Co Dublin, was charged with driving without insurance on the R122 on June 13th in Oldtown. He is further charged with failing to produce insurance on the same date.

He had been charged in June with driving without a driving licence on the same date.

A garda told the court that Byrne made no reply after caution. The garda said he had no objection to bail being extended to cover the new charge sheets.

The court previously heard Byrne was arrested at 3.10pm on June 13th in Oldtown and brought to Swords Garda Station.

Byrne’s defence barrister Patrick Jackson, acting for solicitor Laura Shannon, requested the case be put back for a later date for a plea or to fix a date for the hearing of the case.

He said he confirmed September 26th with the prosecution which Judge Dermot Dempsey granted. Byrne has not yet indicated how he will plead.
