Cars, watches and cash seized in raids in Wicklow and Dublin

The Criminal Assets Bureau conducted a series of raids in Dublin and Wicklow on Friday morning targeting a family-based crime network.

In total, 10 searches were carried out on premises including homes and businesses. Nine searches were carried out in Dublin and one in Co Wicklow, according to gardaí.

About €28,500 and £700 in cash was seized, along with three cars; an Audi A4, A BMW X5 and a VW Passat.

Twenty watches with brands including Rolex, Audemars Piguet, Tag Heuer Carrera and Luminor recovered. A small small quantity of drugs, suspected to be cocaine and cannabis resin, was also seized.

A Presidium Diamond testing kit, which is used to check the quality of gems, was also recovered in the raid. According to gardaí, more than €20,000 has been frozen in financial institutions.

Some documents and mobile phones were seized and are due to be examined.

No arrests have been made.

One member of the family is heavily involved in the Kinahan drugs gang as an enforcer.

He also survived an attempted gun attack which would have claimed his life, though that incident was not linked to the Kinahan-Hutch feud.

The same suspect has come to the attention of police in mainland Europe for gun crime but has escaped conviction there.

The house he lived in some years ago in Dublin 8 was shot at as part of the Crumlin-Drimnagh feud. He is one of a number of men who have progressed from one side of that feud, in which 15 men were killed, into the Dublin-based section of the international Kinahan cartel.
