Car drove on wrong side of motorway before pile-up

Gardaí are investigating reports a car travelled in the wrong direction on the Dublin to Galway motorway prior to a multi-vehicle crash this evening.

The westbound lane of the M6 between Tyrellspass and Tullamore, Co Offaly remains closed following a collision involving four cars. The crash happened at about 6.20pm.

Gardaí said three people were taken to hospital following the incident but their injuries are not believed to be life threatening.

A spokesman confirmed they are investigating reports of a car travelling “eastbound on the westbound carriageway” prior to the crash.

Diversions are in place.
