Break-in at Ulster Bank branch in Athlone investigated

Gardai say no money taken during attempted robbery early on Friday morning

Gardaí are investigating a break-in at an Ulster Bank branch in Athlone early on Friday.

It is thought one man managed to gain access to the building on Mardyke Street between 4am and 5am.

The individual then unsuccessfully attempted to steal money from the bank’s cash desks before fleeing the scene.

Gardaí are examining CCTV footage from inside and outside the branch in a bid to identify the culprit.
