A boy (16) has been charged in relation to a fatal assault of another boy (17) in Claremorris, Co Mayo, on Saturday.

He will appear at a special sitting of Castlebar District Court at 3pm on Sunday. He has been charged in connection with the incident early on Saturday morning.

Gardaí are investigating the assault at Claremount Manor, Knock Road, Claremorris. A 17-year-old suffered fatal injuries during the incident and was pronounced dead at scene.

The 16-year-old was was detained at Claremorris Garda Station under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984.
